- I am a professional farrier and a writer. When I was a kid I wanted to be a horseshoer, but that was a long time ago and girls were not encouraged to learn the trade. As an adult, I had an opportunity to fulfill that dream. I went to a farrier school, then apprenticed for two years. I am currently working full time as a farrier. I found the work so amusing and so full of life that it has spilled into a set of novels who's main character is an older female farrier named Smokey Westford. I hope someday to publish the series for your enjoyment. I spend my leisure time volunteering as a board member for the Meriden Library, as a Master Gardener, and sorting books with the Topeka and Shawne County Friends of the Library.
